The Claddagh ring is a traditional Irish ring given which represents love, loyalty, and friendship and it's distinctive design features two hands clasping a heart and surmounted by a crown. This iconography symbolizes love (heart), friendship (hands), and loyalty (crown). Claddagh rings are sometimes used as friendship rings, but are most commonly used as engagement and wedding bands. Mothers will sometimes present Claddaghs to daughters when they come of age. In Ireland, the United States, Canada, and other regions with Irish heritage, the Claddagh is handed down from mother-to-eldest daughter or grandmother-to-granddaughter.
The design and customs associated with it originated in the Irish fishing village of Claddagh, located just outside the old city walls of Galway, now part of Galway City. Bartholomew Fallon was a 17th-century Irish goldsmith, based in Galway, who made Claddagh rings until circa 1700. His name first appears in the will of one Dominick Martin, also a jeweler, dated 26 January 1676, in which Martin willed Fallon some of his tools. Fallon continued working as a goldsmith until 1700. His are among the oldest surviving examples of the Claddagh ring, in many cases bearing his signature.
There are many legends about the origins of the ring, particularly concerning Richard Joyce, a silversmith from Galway circa 1700, who is said to have invented the Claddagh design as we know it. Legend has it that Joyce was captured and enslaved by Algerian Corsairs around 1675 while on a passage to the West Indies; he was sold into slavery to a Moorish goldsmith who taught him the craft. King William III sent an ambassador to Algeria to demand the release of any and all British subjects who were enslaved in that country, which at the time would have included Richard Joyce. After fourteen years, Joyce was released and returned to Galway and brought along with him the ring he had fashioned while in captivity: what we've come to know as the Claddagh. He gave the ring to his sweetheart, married, and became a goldsmith with "considerable success". His initials are in one of the earliest surviving Claddagh rings but there are three other rings also made around that time, bearing the mark of goldsmith Thomas Meade.

We will give you a quote and if you agree, begin working on your custom design. This process can take 4-12 weeks depending on the design. Once you approve the design, we will create a custom listing for you to purchase. Upon full payment, your ring will enter production which takes 4-6 weeks.
Our rings are made with lab-grown stones. These are REAL STONES (not fake cubic zirconia) and they are chemically identical to naturally occurring ones, but they are better for the earth because we can find them in a lab versus having to dig randomly in the soil.
Upon request, we can make rings with natural stones such as Diamonds, Topaz, Ruby etc Please contact us for a quote as this will dramatically increase the price since these stones are mined at premium costs.
We can make any ring in sterling silver, gold (10K, 14K, 18K, yellow, white, or rose) or platinum.
We do not offer tungsten, steel, or titanium.
If the size change is minor, we may be able to resize the ring at no extra cost. However for larger changes, or rings with stones and continuous knotwork, the ring will need to be remade completely for a small cost (depends on the metal purchased). Creating a new ring takes our standard 4-6 weeks.
For purchases over $400, we offer 2 or 4 monthly payment options.
For purchases over $1500 contact us for a 6 payment plan.
We are flexible on finish dates, but we require rings to be paid in full before we begin working on them (rings take 4-6 weeks to create). Please keep this in mind if you need your rings for a specific date.
We suggest polished + patina for most rings.
Patina is a method of darkening metal through oxidation. This allows small details to stand out and gives the ring a beautiful contrast. Almost all our photos use patina.
Polish is the standard finish you see in high end jewelry - bright, shiny and very reflective.
Brushed is a matte finish recommended for those who are hard on their hands or do rough work. The surface will not be shiny so it hides any scuffs that might occur during wear. Be warned, this will look much duller than our polished finish.
Please see last image in listings for examples of the different finish styles.
Our rings are handmade and take 4-6 weeks to create from the time an order is placed, plus 3-10 days for shipping.
